Sealite’s Revolutionary LED Light Source Installed At Emery Point Lighthouse, Australia
In late 2013 the Darwin Port Corporation upgraded the historic Emery Point Lighthouse with an LED light source – an active lighthouse located in the Northern Territory, Australia.
The modernisation has resulted in reducing the power demand from 1000W to just 40W, with the long life of the LEDs also eliminating the need for a moving lamp changer.
Originally developed by the GLA R&RNAV Directorate and manufactured under license to Trinity House, the highly efficient LED Light Source was chosen to replace the existing tungsten-halogen light source because it maintained the traditional historic value of the lighthouse whilst providing a reliable, low-maintenance, high luminous efficient solution.
“The Sealite LED light has an impressive clarity and range. It was able to be installed without disruption to the historic structure, maintaining the integrity and antique character of the original glass lens”commented Captain Alistair Logan, Marine Pilot, Darwin Port Corporation.
